WE-DAY
14 February 2012
For some couples, February 14 started 2 weeks ago, where the preparations for the Big day has already taken place - be it shopping for V-gifts and preparing the most romantic evening for that special someone.
For some singles, it is a day when you feel kinda left out because everyone is talking about who received Valentine's gifts and who has a date.
For ALL business people, it is a day to leverage on the spirit of love, where people are willing to spend money on the most ridiculous things just because it has a heart shape on it. (Personally, I call it slaughter day too)
For me, it is just another day and I am kinda bummed that it is NOT A HOLIDAY because I feel like Valentine's Day should be a holiday because it's the day we celebrate LOVE! How can I celebrate love when I'm stressed with work?
In my family, we really don't care much about V-Day because, heck we are not really the lovey-dovey type since we are all brought up to think PRACTICALLY and our brains don't really go romantic hahaha. So V-Day is really, literally just another day.
I have to admit that V-Day is a beautiful day because it is a day that allows you to be super romantic and do something special :).
What I am disagreeing with is the fact that some people use this day as a gimmick to hike up prices and slaughter customers like piglets ready to be dined.
To be honest, being a single lady for all my life (at least till now), I don't see V-day as a sad and pathetic day actually (oh well, erm, not yet at least hahaha, I am not sure about next year though! Crap!)
I actually love to see happy couples treat each other in special ways because whenever I see a couple that are genuinely happy together, it gives me hope that there's still true love on this planet.
Of course, our parents' love for us are undeniable, but to find that special someone is pretty difficult because it takes a lot of sacrifice, and of course love. I mean, look at Hollywood!
This year's February 14 is particularly meaningful to me not because it is V-Day. Today, I realise that I have great friends who take the extra effort to make me feel special. I also met new people and had great laughs gossiping (I'm not condoning it, but heck, I'm a girl la!)
To me, that's simply what V-Day is all about, heck, it is what life is all about.
We don't really need to show love by buying expensive gifts - we just need to genuinely care for the people we love. We just need to do the simplest things, like cooking dinner, making cards, fooling around....
So, perhaps it is a day for me to be grateful that I have awesome people around me, who made me feel blessed and not at all misunderstood. To all my great friends, good friends and new friends...thank you so much. You know sometimes I love you guys like family, if not more than family hehehe.
p/s:
My biggest regret this year is crushing a rose muahahha not because it is a rose, but because it was a sincere gift.
And I still can't get over the fact that all prices are hiked up on this day! Like Ron Weasley puts it: "Bloody Hell!"
Love,
TammyC
