LONG OVERDUE CRAP

There are days when I find the experience I get from my current job is so surreal. I get to meet so many interesting and nice people in the MMA industry and sometimes, I don't know how huge a name these people are in the industry because they are so down to earth and nice.

Growing up, I was more starstruck when I see celebrities and I realised now that how some MMA fans feel about these MMA stars are similar to how I'd feel if I see people like Jensen Ackles or say Usher! I count my blessings on a daily basis as I get to work with these great people in the industry.

I was in Cambodia the past week and it has been quite an exciting journey in Cambodia. Honestly, it is one of the best countries I've visited and I really love it here. If you remember me complaining and being a baby in Jakarta, Cambodia has welcomed me with open arms. The people here are so nice and the city is beautiful. Sure there are people who tell me that this place is messy and the jams are terrible. All I can say is, if you can survive Jakarta, you can survive Cambodia. The jams here are nothing, and in fact, everywhere is so near each other, you seldom get stuck in jams.

ONE FC: RISE OF THE KINGDOM is not just humongous in size, hosting 5,000 people in Koh Pich Theatre, but the hype and excitement generated by this event is also substantial as this is definitely one of the biggest fighting event ever to be held in Phnom Penh. One of the reasons I love the sport is because I feel it helps change people's lives.

This is a darn cute photo of Adriano Moraes. I love this guy. He is so fast in the cage.

I have also been busy with the upcoming Malaysian show ONE FC: ROAR OF TIGERS which will be happening on October 17 (and it sort of explains why I haven't been blogging much lately, and this post is actually long overdue).

Our very own Malaysian, Peter Davis will star in co-main event against Vaughn Donayre. It will be a match to watch out for. Also other Malaysian fighters, Ev Ting, Saiful Merican and Ann Osman will also be on the card. It is exciting already, isn't it? With so many big names on the card, work has been awesome. I am just glad I am one of those people who get to say this - I love my job.

On Food
So it's been a while since I wrote about movies and I would like to talk about two movies that I've watched recently - one I really love because it is a great movie with a great storyline, and the other one, it's for my guilty pleasure because there is a hottie in there (ahem).

The Hundred Foot Journey, I found out later, was a product of Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg - no wonder it is so good. When a film is set in France, one can more or less expect promising cinematography that are pleasing to the eyes. I am also in love with the lead actor's dreamy eyes, thick eyebrows and charming smile which goes perfectly with the French lead actress's demure smile, button nose and huge eyes! Oh and I forgot to mention how cute the Poppa Kadam is! Haha. Friend told me he is typical Indian.

The film makes food their main characters, and French food started off as the villain in the movie. The movie serves a perfect blend of culture, sweetened by a dose of love story. The opening scene itself was set in the midst of the bustling city of New Delhi, India, known for its million population.

One of the most memorable lines from the movie which got me thinking is "Food is memory".

I never really thought of food that way because I always felt that music brings back memories. But thinking about it, there are times when food reminds me of certain life events. So it is kinda true that we associate food to memories. For example, when I eat steak, I will think of my grandpa because I remember how he enjoyed steak and how he always wanted to eat American food. He loves that.

It also amazes me how watching a simple scene like a person eating food can actually tear me up. It is crazy! In the movie, when the lead actor ate his Indian food and he thought of his family, I cried. The last time, I watched this Korean movie, and the lead actor ate his hand made jajangmyeon noodle (blackbean noodle), I cried. Seriously? Both were ego-bruising moments for me.

Anyway, I have always had a thing for India's colourful culture and I always love the "marriage" between the Eastern and Western culture. Because I am fascinated by the differences between both worlds and how we are but when two world's collide, I always feel that there is some sort of magic. Hence I really liked the movie. It teaches us to embrace other cultures and learn but to never forget our roots and where we come from. I know I am quite into the Western culture but deep down, I am a super proud Malaysian Chinese.

The Maze
I am guilty of being one of those who likes teen science-fiction novels / franchises like Hunger Games, Divergent and now, The Maze Runner.

I mean, seriously it is quite creative at first until everyone starts writing stories like these it gets a bit annoying. The stories are always set in a more advanced universe, in our future. And always, the protagonist is always in some sort of experiment. If you ask me, The Hunger Games is still so far the best but I'd say The Maze Runner comes in second. Divergent is cool but somehow, I am not a fan of the character, Tris. Maybe because I felt sometimes she is too perfect and a tad full of herself at times.

I watched "The Maze Runner" last weekend and I am so sorry that the one thing that was most striking to me about the movie is the character Minho. I was clueless about the plot and so I was just praying the whole time that they don't kill of the character man! He is a runner and he runs the maze to memorise it so that the entourage can find a way out. I like guys like that I guess haha. They have to be some sort of cool but at the same time, down to Earth. Right now, I can't wait to read the book and see how the real Minho is. Sometimes, when the actor brings the character to life, the actor plays it with a different feel. Like in Divergent, Shailey Woods made Tris a more lovable character because she was less showy.

Friends are going to make fun of me because he is Korean! Dang! Note: I am not particularly in love with Koreans okay. I love all tanned, good looking men with great character.

Anyway to a great month ahead before we welcome October!

p/s: Officially hungry after writing this
