NOTHING LIKE WRECKING BALL

I blame my addiction to computer games for my lack of time to watch movies and blog about them. As a film student, I am very embarrassed about this. Hahaha.

One thing I've learned is that one should not judge the movie based on the name. Movie titles might not be promising, but sometimes, you'll be surprised. But then again, of course there are movies like "He's Not That Into You" that really sucks just like the title suggests.

Anyway, I never thought I would like the movie "Wreck-it Ralph". In fact, I didn't want to watch it when it was released, and called my friend childish for even watching it.

All I can say is, after watching it, I was very impressed with the movie because of the interesting values discussed within its content. And it is not overly predictable.

"Because if that little kid likes me, how bad can I be?"

My favourite line in the movie. Because sometimes, when you doubt yourself, you think of the people who loves you, and somehow, it makes you feel better because then you realise that, maybe you ain't that bad.

Although with a good heart, Wreck-It Ralph is the bad guy in his "game" because of his looks, size and his role as the destroyer. He is dying to be a hero instead because he wants friends. So the movie takes you on a journey with Ralph as he finds his way to be the Hero.

Let's not discuss the synopsis of the story because, really, what's the point of storytelling when you can watch the movie yourself.

Instead, let's delve into the key messages and values discussed in the movie as those are the factors that make it worth while watching.

There's good in bad, and bad in good
There will be no good if there is no evil. Ralph realised later that his ability to destroy things can be put to good use. In fact, sometimes, what you perceived as a bad apple could actually be something perfect for someone else. Just like how Ralph is special to Vanellope. Never underestimate your ability to be someone else's hero even though you don't think you are one yourself. I guess that is how one should live life - to believe that you are still worthy of something. Sometimes when you help people, you get to feel some worth. That's the side effect.

Also, just because what you do seems bad, it doesn't mean the things that you do does not have good in it. When Ralph destroyed Vanellope's race car, it was for her good although at that point, it seems so wrong to hurt a child by destroying her dreams.

Friendship rocks
I am a strong believer of friendships and that one doesn't need a lot of friends - they just need a few true ones. I have been blessed with few good friends who understands me better than anyone. They are the people who are honest with me and will listen to me. There are the ones who has helped me through so much. I admit that I am the kinda person who always placed my friends first (instead of family, which is bad) but I feel that my friends are like family too because most of the time, they are the ones who understands me best.

In the movie, Ralph found his friends through an adventure and realised that the best people around you are the ones whom you can go through hardships together. Friendship means sacrifice and wanting the best for one another. Hence, the movie reminds me of all my friends who has gone through the toughest moments with me.

Working with what you have
Vanellope and Ralph got creative by making their own tracks and learning how to race. There are times I realised that I ask for too much - when in fact creativity is really creating something with minimal resources. Personally, I enjoy that scene and the part where they make candy cars.

It helps when the setting of the movie is full of colours. It brightens up your day really.

There is also a very creative end to the story.
With that, I recommend those of you who are sick and tired of life and people to watch this movie!
