FIND YOUR HOME WITH A SONG
I have known Phillip Phillips' song "Home" for quite a while but never realised how much I loved it until now. The meaning of the song is really beautiful. I love how it reminds you that you belong somewhere, and more than ever, I hope that I can sing it for those who needs it, for those who are having a bad day or feeling useless. I know I will need this song when I am down.
And then, I was introduced to another even more beautiful version! If Philip Phillips' version playfully cheer you up on a cloudy day, this other version emanates a certain warmth within you when you hear its melodic arrangements.
Yes, it is another masterpiece from Glee, another magical blend of two songs that generate bliss, especially if you had had a rough day. It's been a while since I watched Glee really, but this song makes me revisit the cast which I once (and still) adore. I miss the old cast because I went through a few years of work with them.
I couldn't help but shed some tears when I saw Cory Monteith - despite the jokes I made about him, it dawned on me really that this talent is really not with us anymore. Finn Hudson, the cute babyfaced quarterback, who lead the cast of Glee is no longer here. Seeing him sing this song, made me tear even more.... the soft melody doesn't help make you stronger either. That's what songs like these do, they beat you up, make you soft and mellow, in a good way.
Anyway, I'd like to dedicate this song to all my friends who have always gave me a sense of belonging, when I feel so alone. And know that I'll always be there for all of you, if I could, I'd do anything to make you feel better too. Thanks to all of you who have always been there for me.
I'm sitting in a railway station
Got a ticket for my destination, oohhh
On a tour of one-night stands
My suitcase and guitar in hand
And every stop is neatly planned
For a poet and a one man band
This wave (wave...)
Is stringing us along (along...)
Just know you're not alone
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home
Everyday's an endless stream
Of cigarettes and magazines
And each town looks the same to me
The movies and the factories
And every stranger's face I see
Reminds me that I long to be
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost you can always be found
Just know you're not alone
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home
That's why I love the verse "The trouble it might drag you down..." from the song Home because it motivates me to be up again - it is believing that you can always find that one place of happiness again, with the help of family and friends or with God, or even the song - whatever that gives you a comfort that you have a place to go to that you belong.
Home....
Home....
Where my thoughts escape me
Where my music's playing
Where my love life's waiting silently for me
This is really my ideal home - a place where I don't think too much, where I have the music I love playing and the people I love waiting...And one day, we will all find that place really.
Settle down it'll all be clear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost you can always be found
Just know you're not alone
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home
Ohhh, ohhh,...
I'm gonna make, I'm gonna make,
Make this place, your home
Ohhh, ohhh....
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost you can always be found
Just know you're not alone
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home
Ohhh, ohhh,...
I'm gonna make, I'm gonna make,
Make this place, your home
Ohhh, ohhh....
Just know you're not alone
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home
'Cause I'm gonna make this place your home
This particular episode of Glee is also touching I believe because it reunites the old cast members. There is a theme that really completes the feel of the song - a reiterates the fact that, friends, no matter what will always be there despite the fact that everyone has parted ways to pursue their own careers and lives. When I watched Quinn, Puck, Finn, Mercedes, Santana and Mike gathered in the hall, I think of the times me and my pals spent in colleges. Memories of the sense of belonging then overwhelmed me. Our alma mater was always a home to us - it wasn't just a foundation of our education, but the foundation of the memories of all the good times we built together.
This group of friends, they were always there for me in their own ways. And they made me a "home" in their own ways.
Now, I am building new memories in my new "home". My workplace with another bunch of great people. If I leave them someday, this song will remind me of them too.
Thank you songwriters for always bringing us beautiful music and lyrics to help us through hard times, and for serving as a tool to reminisce the good times.
