T-REVIEWS: THE CURSE OF HARRY POTTER
I'm desperately trying to find a read worthy to be called "Book of the Year" but "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" is not it.
That said, it is still a pretty good book. I think many had very high expectations - but not me, and so I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think what most people don't understand is that this written as a play , and hence lacks the intricacy of the original Harry Potter series.
What I do love about it is how we get a taste of Harry Potter from all the previous literature. If you were watching the play itself, it would be an awesome experience because it would bring you into the world of Harry Potter while reminiscing its best bits. In addition, J.K. Rowling is definitely one of the wittiest writers I know and I forgot how much I love her subtle humour through some of the characters. Ron Weasley is my favourite character, but in this book, I've come to really love Scorpious Malfoy.
On thing though, (I will probably get backlash from saying this) I am not a fan of the fact that they chose a black actress for Hermoine's character for the play. I am not in anyway racist (except for my occasional stupid jokes, which I do across all cultures and race, including myself); I just feel uncomfortable relating to the character because it differs from the book. Kind of like, when The Beast in Beauty & the Beast turned into a handsome prince. It just feels that one part is off because Harry still has the glasses, Ron is still a ginger and pretty much a joker, and then, there is Hermoine who looks completely different. I know that J.K. Rowling has always intended for Hermoine to be black, but that should have been implemented in the movie from the start. Well, I guess when I watch the play, it would fit in perfectly.
Should you read it? Of course you should. The thing about anything related to Harry Potter is, you are automatically enchanted to want it, have it, read it, watch it, etc no matter what if you are a fan. The premise of it in itself makes everything exciting and fun.
Some day, I will watch this play. I think it would be - well, magical.
