JUST GRANDPA
I remember those morning tea session, when I dragged myself up...feeling upset that I had to wake up early.
Today, I wouldn't mind at all if I had the chance to do it again with him.
And then there were the 11am Bak Kut Teh sessions, where he will be so excited about.
He would bring his own choice of tea and we would enjoy the meal with utmost satisfaction. Till today, that place still remains as my best memory of Bak Kut Teh, maybe because it was where we had it with him.
And he loves Steak, and beef. I guess that was where I got my tastebuds from - him.
I remember towards his last days, he was so restricted in terms of diet that he couldn't enjoy what he wanted to eat.
Thinking about that makes me most upset.
I remember him driving out to get me and my sister drumsticks when we were younger.
I remember him treating us to Western food, because he knows we love Western.
I remember him acting like a kid, and making us all laugh.
I remember him playing Chinese chess with my sister and brother.
I remember him reading his newspapers, and then falling asleep.
I remember him watching "Fong Sai Yuk" and "Journey To The West".
I remember my uncle giving him a hair cut and he was sitting there with his cute face.
I remember his quirky antics...
I remember him on his hospital bed...as I stroke his head.
All these memories, I want to preserve - because, I won't be able to experience it anymore.
My only regret was that I didn't spend more time with him, to listen to his stories, and learn from this man who has worked so hard for his family and loved us all so dearly.
Grandpa,
I hope you are safe and sound and happy wherever you are.
Love,
TammyC
